How To

Become An IAPS Member Society

Requirements:
  • Must have a minimum of 10 dues paying members
  • Executive Committee must have 4 positions, President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. 
  • Society name must contain the word “pastel”
  • Societies must be not-for-profit
  • Have as its primary purpose the advancement and recognition of the use of pastels as a fine art medium.
  • Sponsor or conduct at least one art exhibition or competition each year limited to works rendered in pastels, whether or not such exhibitors or contestants are restricted to membership in the particular society or association.
  • Complete the form below to register with the International Association of Pastel Societies by completing the form below to register the name of the Society, your officers, and their contact information (address, email, phone).

Member Society Privileges

  • Vote to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors of IAPS when requested. 
  • Vote on all questions submitted by the Board of Directors of IAPS. 
  • Submit names of candidates to be Directors of IAPS 
  • All society members are listed on the IAPS web site.
  • Communication and networking opportunities with pastel artists from around the world.

Individual Members

  • Participate in various activities conducted by IAPS at the Biennial Convention such as workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, etc. 
  • All members of IAPS Societies are eligible to submit artwork for jury in all IAPS Exhibitions including: online, gallery, museum, and convention shows.
  • Individual members of member societies may list IAPS membership on their resumes. 
  • Individual members of member societies who have achieved their Master Circle or Eminent Pastelist status may use IAPS/MC or IAPS/EP after their name.
  • Attend the Biennial Convention at a discounted rate.

There are two ways you can become an IAPS member.
1. You automatically become a member when you join an existing pastel society that is already an IAPS Member Society.
2. You can start a new pastel society and apply for membership with the IAPS.

International Association of Pastel Societies

Organizational Structure

IAPS is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and a small professional staff.

Professional Staff:

We employ an Executive Director to manage our day-to-day operations and organize our signature events.

Executive Committee:

Comprised of: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, and Chief Financial Officer. All officers serve on a volunteer basis.

Board of Directors:

The Board of Directors meets as needed to provide guidance to the Executive Committee, and vote on specific matters as outlined in the IAPS By-Law, and are available to advise the President.

Advisory Council:

The Advisory Council consists of former Board members and Executive Committee members. This council provides valuable insights and is available to the Executive Committee and the Executive Director. The Advisory Council is consulted throughout the year as necessary.

Committee Chairs:

Appointed by the Executive Committee, as needed, to assist with exhibitions, communications and the convention.

How To

Start A Pastel Society

Set up a meeting with your group to choose a Board of Directors 
1.  Board of Directors should include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer 
2.  All the above officers should be elected when group is established 

Decide on membership requirements
1.  Decide on number of meetings per year 
2.  Create a mission statement to include the promotion and education of pastel as a fine art medium
3.  Plan programs 
4.  Decide on whether to be a non-profit
5.  Create by-laws, according to your state laws and
6.  Choose a name and logo. To be an IAPS Member the word “pastel” must be in the society’s name.
7.  Set up a bank account 
8.  Establish an address, preferably a P.O. Box under the society name 
9.  Develop a Society website
