There are two ways you can become an IAPS member.
1. You automatically become a member when you join an existing pastel society that is already an IAPS Member Society.
2. You can start a new pastel society and apply for membership with the IAPS.

We bring together pastel societies from around the world, creating a network of shared knowledge, resources, and opportunities.
We showcase the highest standards of pastel artistry through exhibitions and our biennial convention.
We work tirelessly to increase the visibility and recognition of pastel art in globally.
IAPS is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and a small professional staff.
We employ an Executive Director to manage our day-to-day operations and organize our signature events.
Comprised of: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, and Chief Financial Officer. All officers serve on a volunteer basis.
The Board of Directors meets as needed to provide guidance to the Executive Committee, and vote on specific matters as outlined in the IAPS By-Law, and are available to advise the President.
The Advisory Council consists of former Board members and Executive Committee members. This council provides valuable insights and is available to the Executive Committee and the Executive Director. The Advisory Council is consulted throughout the year as necessary.
Appointed by the Executive Committee, as needed, to assist with exhibitions, communications and the convention.

Set up a meeting with your group to choose a Board of Directors
1. Board of Directors should include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
2. All the above officers should be elected when group is established
Decide on membership requirements
1. Decide on number of meetings per year
2. Create a mission statement to include the promotion and education of pastel as a fine art medium
3. Plan programs
4. Decide on whether to be a non-profit
5. Create by-laws, according to your state laws and
6. Choose a name and logo. To be an IAPS Member the word “pastel” must be in the society’s name.
7. Set up a bank account
8. Establish an address, preferably a P.O. Box under the society name
9. Develop a Society website
